WISDOM AND TIME

EPHESIANS 5:15-16

EPHESIANS 5:15-16  NKJ
15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

This is another chapter full of God's wisdom and revelation.  Paul offers some amazing insight into our new life in Christ.  He broaches topics such as walking in love, living clean in an unclean world, walking as a child of the light, watching your words, and the husband-wife relationship.  You don't want to miss that passage.

But for brevity’s sake, I want to focus on two small verses with big time wisdom.  Walk or live circumspectly.  This word circumspectly has fallen out of our modern vocabulary, but it means carefully, accurately, exactly.  The Amplified Translation says walk with honor, purpose, and courage. Today we might say be intentional, be mindful of how you conduct yourselves.  This command falls in line with all the changes Paul talked about in his letter.

Then he says to not walk as foolish people, who are not very intentional, but as wise people redeeming the time.  Or making the most of your time because we are living in evil days.  Again, we must look at the entire letter to get a sense of what Paul is saying.  Because we are God's handiwork, saved by His grace for good works, we live with a sense of purpose.  We are living in a dark world, but we are light in the Lord called to live differently.  Called to be a witness to the goodness of God and the excellent life available to all His children.  So, we live on purpose with godly intentionality making the most of our time here on earth.  This is more than time management this is purposeful living that sets us apart.  This is living as the wise.

APPLICATION

Have you given thought to your purpose on earth?  Are you biding your time, wasting time, or using your time to make a difference?

These are questions we can all ask ourselves.  This is living intentionally.  We are called for more than just hanging on and surviving until our days are up.  God has a plan for each of us.  These are questions worth praying about.  We want to make the most of our limited time here on earth.

PRAYER

Dear Father, please reveal to me how I can be more intentional with my life and purpose.  And how I can maximize my time here for Your glory and honor.
