THE LIST TO STAY OFF OF

PROVERBS 6:16-19 NKJV

16 These six things the Lord hates,

Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

17 A proud look,

A lying tongue,

Hands that shed innocent blood,

18 A heart that devises wicked plans,

Feet that are swift in running to evil,

19 A false witness who speaks lies,

And one who sows discord among brethren.

My mother never liked it when I used the word hate. If I had found this proverb earlier, I could have told her I was just trying to be biblical.

Here are seven things that people do that the Lord hates. He does not hate the people, but these things are an abomination to Him. The word abomination would describe things that are offensive to God. We get the idea that these are seven things we don't want in our life.

A proud look. Proud looks are generated from being proud. And we know that pride is one of the things God is not in favor of. The proud get resisted. The humble, the opposite of proud, get grace.

A lying tongue. To the God who is truth, lies are something offensive to Him. We are instructed not to lie to one another because we are members of one another. Satan is called the father of lies, and we do not want to be associated with him. Plus, when we lie, we are using our words to intentionally deceive another. We want to use our words to build up and strengthen.

Hands that shed innocent blood. Killing for no reason. God is not opposed to us fighting to defend our nation or our loved ones. Wartime and attacks are not innocent blood.

A heart that devises wicked plans. Some people stumble into evil situations. But to plan something out, to be intentionally wicked, is not good. Jesus said a good man, out of the good deposit in his heart, produces good. And an evil man, out of his evil deposit, produces evil. We want pure hearts before God.

A false witness that speaks lies. This is intentionally lying about another person. Lying to cause harm to another. Nothing good about that.

One who sows discord among brethren. Someone who is creating division among people that should be unified. This can apply to someone causing strife in a church, family, business, or community. As believers, we are to strive for the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is plenty of discord in this world. We need to sows seeds of peace particularly with our family in Christ.

The great thing about this list is the fact that we can stay off of it. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus makes us free from the law of sin and death.

PRAYER:

Thank you, Lord, that staying off this list is not an impossible task. I can do this.
