SPIRIT LED, SPIRIT HELPED
ROMANS 8:14-16
ROMANS 8:14-16 NKJ
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
OBSERVATION:
I know I talk about really loving a particular chapter or verse. I do love the Bible. But Romans 8 is most definitely in my top 5 chapters of all the scriptures. There is so much good stuff in this chapter.
In our verses for today, we see Paul highlighting the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Here we see some of what the Holy Spirit will do in our lives as we pay attention to Him.
The word 'Him' is important. The Holy Spirit is not an 'it'. He is a Divine personality. In verse 16, Paul writes the Spirit Himself, indicating He is a person and every bit a part of the Godhead. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit.
In verse 14, we see that as sons of God8, we can be led by the Holy Spirit.
It was the Holy Spirit who led us to start a church in Conroe, Texas. So many of the projects and plans we have done over the years have been by His leading. Those projects and plans turned out well. My projects and plans are another story.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of adoption. He lets us know that we belong to God. That God is our Father. What a comforting thought. God did not give us a spirit of fear but freed us from that bondage.
And the Holy Spirit is the One who lets us know that we are children of God. He witnesses to our spirit. Not our heads or feelings. But deep down in our hearts, there is a witness in us that we are saved, and we are God's children.
APPLICATION:
The more we acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and look to Him for help, the more we'll be able to experience His ministry in our lives.
He will lead us. He will comfort and affirm us. He will witness to our spirits. And He will reveal to us things to come. We have a great resource living in us.
PRAYER:
Thank You, Father, for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Teach me how to better acknowledge Him and follow His leading.
