I WILL NOT FEAR

HEBREWS 13:5-6

HEBREWS 13:5-6 NKJ
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say:
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?

This is a favorite passage of mine.  These verses give us an ironclad reason not to be afraid, especially of people.

We have a promise from the Lord that He Himself has said.  He promised to never leave us or forsake us.

This promise, as in all the other promises of God, must be received by faith.  In other words, we cannot consult with our five physical senses to determine if this promise is true.

It is way too easy to check our feelings or what we see and come to the conclusion that God has left us.  But we walk by faith, not our physical senses.  So, we choose to believe that regardless of what we see, touch, smell, hear, God is with us and has not abandoned us.

Because we have this promise, we can say something about it.  We can boldly or confidently say that the Lord is my helper.  In other words, we can confidently make this promise apply personally to us.  Not the Lord is the helper of famous Christian leaders.  Not the Lord is the helper of people who work in the church. In order to make this great promise of God's presence and help more of a reality in our lives, we must make it personal.  The best way to make it personal is to boldly say what He has said.

So we confidently say, "the Lord is MY helper; I will not fear.  What can man do to me."

APPLICATION

There is more power in our words than our culture has led us to believe.  We've been sold the lie that our words don't matter.  We would be much better off getting heaven's perspective about words than settling for what people think.

So, to say boldly that the Lord is my helper I will not fear, those are powerful words.  We did not make these words up. This is something God has directed us to say.

When you first say what God says, it may feel awkward.  But stay with it, awkward or not.  Feelings can change. And this is one of the best strategies for resisting fear.

PRAYER

Thank You, Lord.  You will never leave me or forsake me.  So I will boldly say You are my helper.  I will not fear.  What can man do to me?
