I GET THE HINT

PSALM 136:1-3

 PSALM 136:1-3 NKJ
1 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
2 Oh, give thanks to the God of gods!
For His mercy endures forever.
3 Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!
For His mercy endures forever:

This psalm has 26 verses.  In every verse, we see a phrase repeated, "for His mercy endures forever."

This psalm starts with the goodness of God and the power of God and then recounts amazing things God has done.  But throughout the 26 verses, one thing emerges.

His mercy endures forever.  The psalmist makes no attempts to be subtle.  He hammers this point home - God's mercy endures forever.

The Hebrew word mercy means kindness, lovingkindness, mercy, goodness, faithfulness, acts of kindness.  This is one of the key aspects of God's character.  I hear people talk about God's judgment, and they almost sound glad about it.  But we do not see any passage devoted to God's judgment.  We do see a great deal about His mercy.

The writer of Hebrews says that there are two things we must believe about God.  That He is real.  And that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. (Heb. 11:6)  In other words, He is real, and he is real good; his mercy, goodness, kindness, and love will be a constant forever.
