GOD'S AMAZING WORD

HEBREWS 4:2 & 12

HEBREWS 4:2 & 12 NKJ
2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

 OBSERVATION:

Did you ever read a chapter in the Bible and think to yourself, I got nothing out of that? I will answer that question for you. Yes, you have. We all have. Hebrews chapter four is not one of those chapters!

This fourth chapter is full of verses that give us instruction and insight. I am combining two of these verses together to give us a better picture of the power of God's word.

This letter was written to Jewish believers, and the author is speaking of the Nation of Israel when they came out of Egypt. God was continually speaking to His people of His goodness and His plans for them in the land He was giving them.

But the good news word, the gospel, was not helping them. God's word did not profit them because they did not mix faith with what they heard. God was giving them great news about His good land, but they never went into that land because they did not believe what God had said.

Now we couple that verse with verse 12, and we can see the amazing potential of God's word in our lives. God's word is living and powerful. This is the reason you can pick up the Bible and read the same passage or chapter that you read the day before, but it is not old to you. God's word is filled with spiritual life. Power-packed spiritual life.

And God's word can help us discern God's plan and purpose for our lives. It helps us discern the thoughts and intents of our hearts.

If. If we choose to believe God's word. His word profits our lives when we mix faith with what we hear.

APPLICATION:

Two people can hear a message or read a biblical passage and have two very different responses.

One can say ho-hum and get nothing. Another can say yum-yum and get fed. How we receive God's living, powerful word is the difference. Mix faith with what you read and see life change. Be skeptical and miss out on God's wonderful help and plans.

God's word is the real deal. How it impacts your life is your call.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, I believe Your word to be true, alive, and powerful in my life. Thank You for Your word.
