BECOMING A WISE MAN

Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:8-10 NKJV

Proverbs 9:8-10 NKJV Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

If we ask the average man or woman on the street “How does a person become wise?” The answers will certainly vary. Some would say more education, some more experience. Maybe hanging around wise people.

Nothing wrong with any of these answers yet the scriptures tell a different story.

Wisdom starts with respect. A deep respect for God. Acknowledging that He is real and worthy of our respect and honor.

Wisdom also is seen in those who are willing to receive correction. The writer of Proverbs says a wise man will have a great appreciation for the one who corrects him. A wise person knows it may not feel good being corrected, but the long-term benefits are big.

APPLICATION

Tell the Lord that you do love and respect Him. You can show honor to Him by asking Him to correct you in any area of your life.

By the way, this is not a prayer for the timid, this is the prayer of the wise.

His correction will not harm us, and He most often corrects us as we spend time in His word. (2 Timothy 3:16)

So, smile when you sense His correction, you’re becoming a wise person.
