AIN'T SCARED
PHILIPPIANS 1:27-28
PHILIPPIANS 1:27-28 NKJ
27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, 28 and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.
I know English majors are going to wince at this title, but there is a strong message in these two verses.
Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, encourages the church at Philippi to live in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. He addresses living in a way that visibly promotes a unity of faith, purpose, and strength. As he continues this thought of living worthy, he addresses not being afraid of their enemies. In fact, he says in no way terrified. That faith in action, of not being scared, reveals two things. The first is the perdition of your enemies. Perdition means full destruction. The second thing revealed is salvation from God.
So, when Paul says we "ain't scared," it sends a strong message that our enemies are going down and salvation is coming our way.
APPLICATION
Growing up, you just knew that the guy you did not want to fight was the one who was not afraid. The main reason they weren't afraid was they knew they would win.
The more we grow in the knowledge of our victory in Christ, the less afraid we become. We aren't afraid because we know in the end when the dust settles, we're going to be alright. As a friend of mine says, "this will turn out for my good and God's glory."
We believe we will win, so we ain't scared.
PRAYER
Thank you, Father, for the victory that I have in Christ. I am in no way terrified because I know I am connected to You and Your salvation.
