A SIMPLE POWERFUL WAY TO PRAY

COLOSSIANS 1:9-14 NKJ

COLOSSIANS 1:9-14 NKJ
9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

On this Memorial Day we want to give thanks for those who gave their lives that we might live ours in peace. And we want to pray for those who have lost loved ones and friends in the service of our country.

While we are talking prayer, this one today in Colossians is one of my very favorites.

This prayer in Colossians and the two prayers in Ephesians are some of the most powerful prayers for others and for ourselves.

When we pray for other believers, we can insert their names into this prayer. If the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to pray this way for the believers in Colosse, then this prayer still applies today. Remember, spiritual truths do not change even though culture constantly changes.

And here is another great truth. You can pray this prayer for yourself. Our heart is to walk worthy of the Lord. We want to be fully pleasing to Him. Verse 9 shows us what is a necessary factor. We need to be filled with the knowledge of God's will. And not just know about God's will but have spiritual insight as to how to apply His will to our life.

We desire to be strengthened with all might according to God's power. This will enable us to put up with the events of life without folding. His strength will also help us put up with people without giving up.

Verses 12-14 are reasons we can give thanks. We have an inheritance in Christ, and we are thankful. We have been delivered from the authority of Satan and darkness, and we are thankful. We have been purchased out of bondage through His blood, and our sins have been forgiven. So thankful.

APPLICATION:

So, if you run out of ways to pray for others and yourself, start here.

I am going to close out this devotional by praying for you the way I pray for people at The Ark. You are not my people. You belong to the Lord who bought you. My job is to help you grow up in Him. This prayer is one of the most powerful ways I can pray for you.
