A CURE FOR THE BLUES

PSALM 9:1-2

PSALM 9:1-2 NKJV
1 I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;
I will tell of all Your marvelous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.

OBSERVATION:

Here are four 'I wills' that can help clear up a cloudy day in your soul.

"I will praise the Lord with my whole heart." David has a lot to say about praising God. It is evident that this practice was an important part of his life. As you read the Psalms, you can see that David does not deny experiencing trouble and difficult times. It's just that he does not stay in that state. When praise is part of your life, the ability to bounce out of the blues is enhanced.

"I will tell of all Your marvelous works." David talked about what God had done and what God was doing. Speaking what amazing things God has done helps to magnify Him in your life. It is boasting in the Lord. You know people who boast about what they have and what they have done. We have a great God, and we can boast about His works. The bigger God is in your life, the easier it becomes to shift your focus off yourself and your issues.

"I will be glad and rejoice in You." This is a choice David made. Whether we are glad or sad is much more determined by our choices than our circumstances.

"I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High." By now, we are getting a clear picture that David has made praise, rejoicing, singing, and boasting a powerful part of his life with powerful repercussions. No way we do these four things and stay down.

APPLICATION:

Pick one of these four 'I wills' and practice it during the next week. Practice means you are learning, so there is no concern that you will do it wrong.

Practice also involves a moving past awkwardness. Anything new feels different, but the more you practice, the more natural it becomes. And there is no downside to these four 'I wills.' These are power choices that will help drive the blues away.
