A CONNECTION WITH THE LORD

PSALM 16:7-11 NKJ

PSALM 16:7-11 NKJ
7 I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;
My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
8 I have set the Lord always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will rest in hope.
10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol,
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
11 You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

I like reading the Psalms and the Proverbs daily. There is such practical sound wisdom in both books and especially in Proverbs. There is great wisdom in the Psalms, but there is also such great expression. David is continually expressing his heart to the Lord and for the Lord. And in this expression, we gain insight as to how to connect with the Lord and what the results of that connection will yield.

David is offering praise to the Lord who has given him counsel. It appears that this counsel can come at night when he is quiet. And David sets the Lord always before him. This is a continual connection that is initiated by David, not the Lord. Setting the Lord before him would involve keeping the Lord in his thoughts. And we are constantly hearing David express who the Lord is to him. This closeness keeps David from being moved. It keeps him steady.

 Not only is David steady, he is glad in his heart. We talked about this in yesterday's devotional. David's connection impacts him on the inside in a positive way and brings a sense of security and rest to him.

 Verse ten is a prophetic word that involves Jesus, after His death on the cross, and then the Psalm reverts back to what David's connection with the Lord will bring.

You will show me the path of life is a verse I pray often. There are so many different decisions and paths we can take, but I want the one the Lord is showing me. That's the best path, the path of life.

And we close this Psalm with David's understanding that God is good, very good. Connected closely to Him, there is fullness of joy and pleasures. It's good to be connected.

APPLICATION:

If you have made Jesus your Savior, this close connection is available to you. The Lord is not One to show favorites. Those who draw close to Him will enjoy these benefits, Godly counsel, stability, gladness of heart, right paths with joy, and pleasures forevermore. It is good to be connected and stay connected.

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, teach me more about how to have a close connection with You. It is the best place for me to live.
