A BIGGER PERSPECTIVE OF GOD

PSALM 95:3-7 NKJV

3 For the Lord is the great God,

And the great King above all gods.

4 In His hand are the deep places of the earth;

The heights of the hills are His also.

5 The sea is His, for He made it;

And His hands formed the dry land.

6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down;

Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

7 For He is our God,

And we are the people of His pasture,

And the sheep of His hand.

Today, if you will hear His voice:

One of the areas that we will always have room to grow in our lives is our perspective of God.

In our psalm for today, the author, writing by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, makes some declarations that reveal how big our God is.

"The Lord is the great God, and the great King above all gods." This does not leave the slightest room for any other god to show up. Our God is the great God, and no one or nothing comes even close. He is the great King above anything or anyone that would put their god up as amazing. Nope, their gods do not compare with our great God. The next two verses give us reasons why there is no god like our God.

Our God holds the deep places of the earth in His hand. And the highest hills. So there is no mountain too high or valley too low for our God. He is not awed by creation, nor does His creation overshadow Him. He made it all. God made the oceans, and He made the dry lands. People live in awe of nature, and that's okay, provided we don't forget the One who made it all is worthy of more awe and respect.

“Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker." What a great perspective. We did not create ourselves, nor did we evolve. We were created by the Lord, our Maker. And for that fact alone, He is worthy to be worshipped.

"For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand…" We have a God, and we are His people. The sheep of His hand is rendered the sheep under His care. That is a big thought and a comforting thought. Our Maker cares for us, and we belong to Him.

APPLICATION

In the Old Testament prayers that are recorded, we see God being acknowledged as the Maker of heaven and earth. One example of this is in 2 Kings 19:15 when Hezekiah was facing a dominating enemy army that was intent upon destroying Judah. Hezekiah acknowledges God is greater than the opposing army because He is God over all the kingdoms of the earth because He made the heavens and the earth.

I don't see why we can't still pray that way today. It will help all of us to acknowledge that God is bigger than anyone or anything we face. That He alone is God, and no one even comes remotely close. And not only is He God, He is our God, and He cares for us.

God has given us His word to reveal His majesty and nature. It's now up to us to take up that bigger perspective. The first two verses of Psalms 95 give us one pathway to growth. As we worship and praise Him, we make Him bigger in our eyes.

PRAYER

Lord, You are God, my Maker, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. As I worship You, I can gain a bigger perspective of You.
