12 Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold
Is a wise rebuker to an obedient ear.
OBSERVATION:
Black Friday is somewhat of a misnomer. It is not a day of mourning. Instead, it is the day after Thanksgiving when retailers would have a big sale push and go into the black for the year.
Into the black is a business term that indicates a profit as opposed to into the red, which is a loss.
What Black Friday has come to mean for Christmas shoppers is the existence of great sales. A day to do major shopping and save major money. Online retailing is changing the face of Black Friday, but it is still a season for consumer savings.
Today's verse in Proverbs presents an item of great value. The author of Proverbs, Solomon, in this case, says this deal is better than gold earrings and gold ornaments.
Solomon is talking about a wise rebuker and having an obedient ear.
A wise rebuker would be someone who can offer wisdom that corrects. A wise rebuker does not convey the idea of someone who tells you what you want to hear. This is to admonish, to take to task, to convict.
Is someone who can correct and reprove us valuable? Absolutely. If we are on the wrong path having wisdom come our way that can help us course correct is extremely valuable.
So here is the second part of the proverb. A wise rebuker to an obedient ear. Wisdom only has impact when it is received and acted upon.
APPLICATION:
This lesson is so valuable. Having wisdom come our way that corrects us is worth more than gold.
God's wisdom helped save my marriage and strengthen my family. God's wisdom pulled me off the wrong path and helped me discover God's plan for my life. And God's wisdom can do the exact same thing for you.

God's word in our lives is the best of all rebukers. God's ministers, that you may never interact with but who can teach and preach God's word, are wise rebukers.
Wisdom is available. So, we must develop obedient ears to hear. It's worth more than gold and better than a 40% off Black Friday sale.
